Free Beetlejuice Sand Snake Inspired Pumpkin Crochet Pattern

I came across the cutest little Mickey Mouse pumpkin on Ribblr but it's paid. It's just a simple pattern. Right? Well, for whatever reason Sandworms are coming to mind. I need it. I have this thicker yarn and I don't know what better thing to use it for. So I was thinking of making the mouse head but replacing one small pumpkin with a sandworm and calling it even. Hmm, maybe even make the big pumpkin striped and the ones on top green and purple. So many different designs are coming but by far this is my favorite. Let's get into it!

Materials:

3.5 , 4 , 4.5 , 8 mm hook

4 weight yarn in: red, green, white, black, brown, and blue

6 weight yarn in purple

Scissors

Darning needle

Wire & Safety Eyes (optional)

Abbreviations: US Terminology

ch - chain

MR - Magic Ring

sk - skip

hdc - half double crochet

sc- single crochet

( ) - Repeat

inc - increase

BLO - Back Loop Only

FLO - Front Loop Only

turn - turn work

dec - decrease

sl st - slip stitch

dc - double crochet

tr - treble crochet

FO - Fasten Off

Inv CC - Invisible Color Change

Start:

Big ( 8mm / Purple ) / Little Pumpkin ( 4mm / Green )

1.) ch 16, sk 3

2.) BLO : hdc down chain, ch 1, turn

3-35.) Repeat row 2

36.) Connect both sides of the pumpkin, sc or sl st down the side.

37.) FO - Leave a long end for sewing both sides!

Sewing : Sew the bottom closed! Once you get the sides sc or sl st together, you will have a big open circle! Kind of like a cuff if you were making clothes! You need to string the needle through the top of each rib, pull tightly as you work around! Start stuffing your pumpkin now and well! You want it to be round and juicy! Then string the needle through the middle and sew the top just alike!

Snake: Black and White ( 3.5mm )

NOTES

* Each ROUND ends with a sl st, ch1 *

** Every 2 rows change color, I started with white and ended with white **

*** Inv CC: To make an Inv CC, start by sticking your hook into the stitch, yarn over, and instead of yarning over for the second time and pulling through, we will add and yarn over with the new color! Pull the yarn through the loops and you're done! ***

**** Stuff throughout the process, DON'T wait until the end!!!! ****

***** For a stronger hold, you can also use wire to help with the snake's shape *****

1.) 4 sc in MR

2.) (  2 sc, inc ) x3

3-37.) sc around

38.) BLO : 2 sc, 2 inc, 2 sc, turn

39.) sc across, turn

40-44.) dec, sc across, turn

45.) sl st, sc, hdc, sc, sl st

46.) FO - Tuck in the ends

Sew/ Add Safety eyes / red, and add white around them to create dimension!

Connect white to middle BLO of the last round of the snake!

38.) BLO : 2 sc, inc, 2 sc, turn

39.) sc across

40-44.) dec, sc across, turn

45.) sl st, sc, sl st

46.) FO - Tuck in the ends!

**SC Surface crochet on the lips - I used blue **

Inner Head: All White ( 3.5mm )

1.) ch 8, sl st, ch 1

2.) 8 sc around, 2 inc

3.) 6 sc, 2 inc, 4 sc

4-5.) 12 sc around

6.) 12 sc, 2 dec

I would start stuffing here and as it decreases, also if you use safety eyes go ahead and add em!

7.) 10 sc, dec

8-10.) 10 sc around

11.) dec, sl st

12.)  FO - Leave a long tail for sewing!

Sew the mouth of the head closed and drag the needle through the center and sew into FLO of the last round of the snake!

Sew eyes / black, and add white around them, mouth / blue, spots / red

Fin: Black ( 3.5mm )

1.) ch 6

2.) sl st, sc , hdc, dc, tr

3.) FO - Leave yarn tail for sewing!

Sew onto the first black stripe after mouth opening!

Once snake is finished, I curled mine once, and strung the yarn through the entire thing and so on and forth around until sat still. Then sew onto pumpkin!

Stump: Brown ( 4.5mm )

1.) 6 sc in MR

2.) 6 inc

3.) BLO 12 sc around

4-6.) 12 sc around

7.)  ( inc, 3 sc )x4

*** [ ] means down ch ***

8.) ch 4, [ sl st, sc , hdc ], 2 sc, hdc, dc, 2sc, ch 3, [ sl st, 2 sc, hdc ], sc, ch 4, [ sl st, 3 sc, hdc ], 3sc, ch 3, [ sl st 2 sc, hdc ], ... etc. until finished the round.

9.) FO - Leave a tail for sewing!

Sew onto the top of your pumpkin! As I got closer to closing the hole, I stuffed the stump! hehe

Twirl: Blue ( 4.5mm )

1.) ch 21

2.) hdc TIGHTLY down ch.

3.) FO

Sew onto stump!

FINISHED!

Hey, just wanted to share my newest pattern with you! It just so happens to be fall and spooky season! I'm in love! The red and white mushroom was my first one, and the second one is the green and purple! I tried it in a couple different ways to see which one came out better! To be honest, I can't decide! They do come out the same size! I also did different stitches on the outside. I personally love the shell stitch but you can use whichever, if none if you'd like!
